What Is the Best Free App to Log My Flights?
There is no single best one, because each free version limits something different. FlightLog (iPhone, iPad and Android) gives every feature on your 10 most recent flights. Flighty (Apple devices only) tracks unlimited flights for free and imports past flights from the last 365 days. On the web, myFlightradar24 and OpenFlights are free logbooks, and the basic service of FlightMemory is free.
What does free really mean in a flight log app?
Almost every flight log app is free to download, but each one draws the line somewhere else: the number of flights, how far back your history goes, the devices it runs on, or the features. Before you put years of flights into an app, check three things: what happens to your older flights, whether you can export your data, and whether it runs on every device you use.
The free versions side by side
| App | Where it runs | What is free |
|---|---|---|
| FlightLog | iPhone, iPad, Android | Every feature on your 10 most recent flights. Older flights stay in your journal, locked until Premium |
| Flighty | iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch (no Android) | Unlimited flight tracking and Flighty Passport, past flights imported from the last 365 days |
| myFlightradar24 | Web browser (no mobile app) | A logbook with a map and statistics, with a free Flightradar24 account |
| OpenFlights | Web browser | Everything: it is free, open-source software |
| FlightMemory | Web browser | The basic service. A premium membership is paid |

FlightLog: every feature on your 10 most recent flights
FlightLog is a flight diary for iPhone, iPad and Android, in 33 languages. The free version has every feature: the boarding pass scanner, imports from your calendar, booking emails and other apps, statistics, the 3D globe, the passport and the achievements, on your 10 most recent flights. When you add more, every flight stays in your journal: the older ones are locked and left out of the statistics, and Premium unlocks your complete history. Nothing is deleted.
Flighty: free flight tracking, history in Flighty Pro
Flighty is built around live flight alerts. According to its pricing page, the free plan tracks unlimited flights and includes Flighty Passport, its record of your flights, with past flights imported from the last 365 days. The complete history, calendar import and email import are part of Flighty Pro. Flighty runs on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch, not on Android, and the app is in English only. See the FlightLog and Flighty comparison.
Free logbooks on the web
- myFlightradar24 is the logbook of Flightradar24: you add a flight by its number and date, and it draws your map and statistics. Signing up takes an email and a password, and its FAQ says there is no mobile app.
- OpenFlights is free, open-source software that runs in your browser, with import and export of your data.
- FlightMemory is a logbook website whose basic service is free, with a paid premium membership.
A website works well for typing in old trips, less well at the gate. You can start on one of these and move later: FlightLog imports files from myFlightradar24, OpenFlights and FlightMemory.
What about App in the Air?
App in the Air closed in September 2024. If you exported your data before the shutdown, read how to recover your App in the Air flights.
How to choose
- Live delay alerts first, on an iPhone: Flighty.
- A diary of every flight on iPhone and Android, with statistics and a globe: FlightLog.
- A free logbook, used from a computer: myFlightradar24 or OpenFlights.
- Whatever you pick: make sure you can export your flights, so your history never stays stuck in one app.
